Why Columbus

Situated on the east bank of the beautiful whitewater rapids of the Chattahoochee River, Columbus is just 90-minutes south-west of Atlanta, Georgia.

The Chattahoochee River in Columbus has completed a mammoth restoration project that has returned the river to its natural flow. Now that the dams, built in the late 1800's to power textile mills, have been breached, the results have led to whitewater in Columbus that has become the longest course in an urban setting in the world. The river restoration project is just one of many examples of the private-public partnership that exists in Columbus. This cooperative effort has allowed the city to move ahead with a number of unique enterprises from a multi-million community challenge, resulting in building a state of the art performing arts center, restoration of a number of cultural institutions, building a world class museum to honor the infantry, the South Commons that played host to the 1996 Women's Fastpitch Softball venue, Woodruff Soccer Complex, and so much more!

In your down time, tour the awe-inspiring National Infantry Museum, National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus, the Coca-Cola Space Science Center, the State Theater of Georgia the Springer Opera House, the Liberty District and Liberty Theater, one of the largest contiguous historic districts in the southeast, the Chattahoochee RiverWalk a 15-mile linear park, plus 46 other attractions. Columbus is home of some of the best barbecue in the country, but when hunger strikes, there’s no shortage of other palate-pleasing choices, too. If shopping is on your to-do list, the Chattahoochee Valley offers a cornucopia of nationally recognized stores complemented by unique local boutiques.
